The Importance of Technology in Education

Quote- "Pundits may be asking if the Internet is bad for our children’s mental development, but the better question is whether the form of learning and knowledge-making we are instilling in our children is useful to their future."- Cathy N. Davidson
Reaction-As a future educator I am worried about the future and status of this nation. If children are not being taught the necessary skills for future jobs then who be able to take over those jobs and run this nation. The United States are already behind in education, but where will we be if we are not able to catch up or if we continue to fall behind others.
I believe that one way to solve this problem is to begin with the future teacher’s education. It is not possible for teachers to educate and inform students when they themselves have not mastered the skills that they are trying to teach.
If teachers become familiar with technology they can learn how to incorporate it in their classrooms every day. Instead of fighting technology educators should be embracing it which will benefit both teacher and student.
It is an educator’s job to make sure that students have the knowledge that they need to be successful. It is just a waste of the students and the teacher’s time if the students are learning information that is useless to them. That is why it is important for teachers to realize that the world of education is changing and to stop suppressing it.

  1. Sarah, I really like your thoughts on how we need to teach the future teachers and prepare them for our new classrooms. I never looked at this way before but you were right on target!!!

  2. I strongly agree with your emphasis regarding the responsibility of educators themselves.

While it is, of course, the students' responsibility to learn, the education they receive will be less than optimal unless educators are up to date with current affairs and modern technology. I highly doubt that a teacher will be effective if students believe that he or she in incompetent, especially in realms where students are extraordinarily competent.

I know a lot of people are given to blame students for their lack of learning in the classroom. And while this is something of a logical criticism, I believe that teachers have more responsibility than that. Educators must be competent enough with their resources to make education as interesting and "painless" as possible - to incline students to want to learn.

Marvelous post! I enjoyed reading it.

  3. I also agree with what you have to say. It is important that the educator knows what they are doing in order to teach their students. This world is changing so fast that the technology is going to keep changing. An educator must be kept up to date in order to teach their students.

  4. Sarah, I agree that students need the necessary skills too be able too succeed in the future and that includes technology skills. I also strongly agree that educators need too get accustomed too the technology to teach it because if they don't know it then how are the students suppose too learn it?

  5. Sarah I completely agree with your reaction. No matter what technology is growing and teachers should embrace the changes to make a better learning experience for the students, which is why we teach. I really enjoyed reading your opinion will be reading again thank you!
